Nixon asks court to keep man arrested for child sexual abuse out of day-care centers

Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon has filed for an injunction to bar the access of a former day-care employee arrested on charges of child sexual abuse from three St. Louis day-care centers.

Thursday, Nixon asked the St. Louis City Circuit Court to close three day-care centers unless Malcolm King is barred from entering them. The centers are Kingsland Day Care at 2353 Park, COJC Learning Center at 2705 Potomac and the Access Church of Jesus Christ day care at 3265 Jefferson Ave.

The directors of the centers are King's grandmother, mother and sister. Thursday, Nixon received a temporary restraining order against Virginia Brown, his grandmother, to prevent King from entering the COJC Learning Center. His mother, Viola King, and his sister, Cassandra Townsend, today agreed to a consent injunction barring King's admittance from the other day cares.

“Missouri law is designed to protect children in day-care centers from the threat of abuse and neglect,” Nixon said. “The only way the parents who use these day-care centers can believe their children are safe is to assure them King won't be allowed inside.”

King worked as a cook at the Kingsland Day Care from June 1994 until at least March 3. King was charged Feb. 28 with statutory sodomy, sexual abuse and sexual misconduct of a child. The charges against King are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
