Supreme Court sets April 10 execution date for Williams

Jefferson City, Mo. — The Missouri Supreme Court has scheduled an April 10 execution date for Doyle Williams, 48, who has been on the state's death row since November 1981. Williams was convicted of the October 1980 murder of Kerry Brummett in southern Callaway County.

The murder victim had testified against John Morgan, an accomplice of Williams in the theft and forgery of prescription pads from an Auxvasse doctor. On the night of Oct. 9, 1980, Williams and Morgan lured Brummett to an area near the Missouri River, then pistol-whipped him and handcuffed him behind his back. They tied a weight to Brummett and forced him into the river, where he drowned.

“This was a brutal murder of a witness because he had testified in a criminal case,” Attorney General Jay Nixon said. “After 15 years, it is time for the decision made by a jury of 12 Missourians to be carried out.”
