Former Branson construction contractor pleads guilty to not carrying workers' compensation insurance

Jefferson City, Mo. — The owner of a former construction business in Branson pleaded guilty on March 12 to a charge of workers' compensation noncompliance brought by Attorney General Jay Nixon. Stone County Associate Circuit Judge William T. Kirsch sentenced Henry Young to a 10-day term in the county jail and a $25,000 penalty and also fined him $1,000. The court suspended the sentence and placed Young on probation for two years.

Young did not carry workers' compensation insurance for the employees of his business, T&L Construction, which went out of business last March. State law requires construction businesses with one or more employees to have workers' compensation insurance.

“The few companies in Missouri that do not carry workers' compensation insurance cannot shirk their responsibility,” Nixon said. “When the law requires a company to have coverage, we stand ready to enforce that law.”
