Nixon obtains $42,400 in penalties for county school funds from Holden Industries for hazardous waste violations

Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon announced today that a southwest Missouri business will pay a total of $42,400 in civil penalties to the McDonald and Newton county school funds for hazardous waste violations at its Neosho and Southwest City facilities.

Holden Industries, which manufactures custom low-boy trailers, will pay the penalties under a settlement agreement with Nixon's office. The McDonald County school fund will receive $22,500 and the Newton County school fund will receive $19,900.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources inspected the facilities in 1997 and found several hazardous waste violations, including Holden's failure to register as a generator of hazardous waste and the improper storage of hazardous waste. Nixon said that since the time of the inspections, Holden Industries has returned to compliance with state hazardous waste laws.
