Jefferson City, Mo. —A three-member team of experts appointed by the court to oversee implementation of a $25 million waste treatment plan by Premium Standard Farms will hold a public meeting in Princeton next Tuesday to take public input on the issue. The public meeting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Stacy Center, next to the high school.
The Management Advisory Team was appointed as a condition of a settlement reached between PSF and Attorney General Jay Nixon as part of a resolution to Nixon's lawsuit against PSF alleging water pollution from manure spills and other violations of state environmental laws at facilities in Putnam, Mercer and Sullivan counties.
Professors John Sweeten, Larry Jacobson and C.M. (Mike) Williams were selected jointly by Nixon and PSF to make up the team. The Department of Natural Resources also will have a non-voting administrative representative, Dr. Joe Engeln, on the team.
Sweeten is director of agricultural engineering at Texas A&M University; Jacobson is a professor and extension engineer at the University of Minnesota; and Williams is director of the North Carolina State University Animal and Poultry Waste Management Center.
In addition to considering public comments made at the Nov. 30 meeting, the team will accept written comments submitted before 5 p.m. on Dec. 17. Written comments should be sent to Missouri Attorney General, P.O. Box 899, Jefferson City, MO 65102, Attention: Bill Bryan.
