Nixon obtains $102,500 from telemarketers who violated No Call law

Jefferson City, Mo. — Attorney General Jay Nixon today announced that his office has obtained an additional $102,500 from 17 businesses that made telemarketing calls in violation of Missouri's No Call law. Nixon now has collected $267,500 from telemarketers in enforcement actions in the three months that the No Call law has been in effect.

"With more than 2 million Missourians as full partners with us on the No Call team, we've succeeded both in reducing telemarketing calls to those on the list and in pursuing those who violate the law," Nixon said.

The telemarketers included in today's announcement are:

  • Accurate Installation (also known as Superior Interiors or Supreme Exteriors), whose principal place of business is St. Peters, Mo., which will pay $5,000 for making calls marketing home repairs and waterproofing to consumers;

In addition to the penalties, the court orders will require the business to obtain current copies of the No Call list and comply with the law in the future, or face stipulated penalties of $5,000 for any and each future violation. More than 814,000 residential phone numbers — representing an estimated two million Missourians — have been placed on the No Call list since last December.

"Those Missourians not yet on the list can place their phone numbers on the No Call list at any time," Nixon said. "The process to sign up is quick, easy and free."

Missourians can still register their home phone numbers on the No Call list at no cost, either online or by calling toll-free 1-866 NO CALL 1 (1-866-662-2551). Nixon reminded Missourians who haven't registered to sign up by Nov.1 in order to be covered by Jan. 1.

Those already on the No Call list may file complaints about telemarketing calls by downloading a complaint form or by calling the toll-free number.

Telemarketers can obtain information on how to get a copy of the database containing the telephone numbers on the No Call list. The cost of the database is $25 and is updated four times a year.
