Jefferson City, Mo. — The Missouri Public Service Commission today granted motions by Attorney General Jay Nixon to intervene in rate cases filed by AmerenUE. Nixon is intervening in the Ameren cases at the written requests of the Department of Natural Resources and the Office of Administration.
Last month, Ameren filed rate cases with the Public Service Commission seeking to increase electric revenues by $360.7 million and natural gas revenues by $10.8 million. The PSC has set hearings on the rates cases for next March.
“Ameren has more than 1.2 million electric ratepayers in Missouri, and the state of Missouri is also a major Ameren customer,” Nixon said. “The Attorney General's Office will aggressively look after the interests of Missouri in these cases. We remained concerned, as we have for the past eight months, that Ameren not put the financial burden from the failure of its Taum Sauk reservoir on the backs of ratepayers.”
On July 7, the commissioner for the Office of Administration, Michael Keathley, made a written request to Nixon asking the Attorney General to intervene in the Ameren rate case. That was followed by a July 13 letter from the deputy director for the Department of Natural Resources, Kurt Schaefer, requesting the Attorney General to represent the DNR in the Ameren case.
