Mrs. Nixon sends off BikeMO 2006, reiterates support of Attorney General Nixon for preserving, extending Katy Trail
October 17, 2006 Georganne Nixon, wife of Attorney General Jay Nixon, and Deputy Attorney General Karen Mitchell helped send off more than 100 bicyclists in Holts Summit on Oct. 14 for the start of BikeMO 2006. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Missouri Bicycle Federation and the Missouri Bicycle Foundation; proceeds are used to promote bicycling and advocate for better bicycling conditions in Missouri.
Members of the Missouri Bicycle Federation presented Mrs. Nixon with more than 2,000 messages and signatures in support of extending the Katy Trail to Kansas City. Mrs. Nixon told the group that her husband has long been a supporter of the Katy Trail, going back to his days as a state senator when the trail was formed in the 1980s and continuing to his current lawsuit to preserve the historic railroad bridge at Boonville as part of the trail corridor.
