Nixon presents Vietnam War, Korea War medallions to Missouri veterans in Bucklin
August 4, 2008 Attorney General Jay Nixon presented medallions to 38 Missouri veterans who served during the Vietnam War or the Korean War in a ceremony in Bucklin on Aug. 1. The ceremony was sponsored by Bucklin Green Hills Post 57 of the American Legion.
In 2006, the Missouri General Assembly passed legislation creating the Vietnam War Medallion Program. Every veteran who honorably served on active duty in the United States military service at any time from Feb. 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 is eligible to receive the medallion and a certificate of appreciation. A similar award, the Korean War Medallion, was created in 2003 for veterans who honorably served on active duty in the United States military service at any time from June 27, 1950 to January 31, 1955.
