The Attorney General's Task Force on Domestic Violence met on September 7, 2010, in St. Louis; September 20, 2010, in Columbia; and September 27, 2010, in Kansas City. The Task Force was created to examine the state's domestic violence laws, which had not been comprehensively reviewed for 30 years. The Task Force heard from those involved throughout the domestic violence-protection system, including law enforcement, prosecutors, victims' advocates, judges, probation and parole officers, and court officials. The Report contains recommendations for significant clarifications and enhancements of existing laws, as well as best practices suggestions.
SB 320, containing the majority of the Task Force recommendations, unanimously passed both the Missouri House and Senate during the 2011 session. Governor Nixon signed the bill into law, which took effect on August 28, 2011.
