Jefferson City, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley obtained a $45,467 judgment on behalf of 11 Missourians who received poor or incomplete paving or sealing services from Darin Ruby and his business, Best Way A-Z Hot Mix Paving.

Ruby approached potential customers door-to-door offering discounted asphalt and sealing services. After they paid for services promised by Ruby, he either did not perform the services or performed them poorly. At times, Ruby also demanded money over and above the initial agreed-upon price to complete the work. When customers attempted to alert Ruby to defects or unperformed services, Ruby would make excuses or not respond.

“My Office will not tolerate contractors who prey on Missourians,” said Hawley. “My office will use all means necessary to make things right.”

The case was litigated by Assistant Attorneys General Joe Schlotzhauer and Jake Aubuchon and investigated by Quinton Dalton and Ashley Ricks.

Consumers who believe they may have been scammed by a contractor should file a complaint with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office by calling the hotline 800-392-8222 or submitting a complaint online.
